Description

Orajel Extra Strength is a benzocaine 20% dental gel that numbs the area to temporarily reduce toothache pain from a broken tooth or a tooth that may need a filling, for short-term use until you can see a dentist. For adults and children aged 12 years and over, sold by Ways Pharmacy (UK).

Not suitable for: Children under 12 years; anyone who has had an allergic reaction to benzocaine or any of the other ingredients, particularly sorbic acid; anyone told by a doctor they have difficulty converting methaemoglobin to haemoglobin (methaemoglobinaemia); anyone taking sulphonamide antibiotics such as co-trimoxazole. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, check with a pharmacist, doctor or dentist first.

How to use

Read the label and Patient Information Leaflet (PIL) before use.
Remove the cap and cut open the tip of the tube.
With a clean finger, apply an amount of gel the size of a green pea into the tooth cavity.
Use up to a maximum of 4 times a day. Avoid hot drinks while using the gel.
Use only for short-term relief until you can see a dentist. If the toothache persists, consult your dentist.

Do not use it if you are taking sulphonamide antibiotics such as co-trimoxazole, as benzocaine may stop them working well. Tell your pharmacist, doctor or dentist about any other medicines you take.

What are the signs of a reaction?

Stop using the gel and contact your doctor or dentist if you get burning, stinging, itching, redness, rash or swelling, or if symptoms are severe or come with fever, headache, breathlessness, nausea or vomiting.

How should I store it?

No special storage conditions. Do not use if the tube or pack is damaged or after the expiry date.

Contains sorbic acid, which may cause local skin reactions such as contact dermatitis.
