Who it is for
- Adults and children (with adult supervision) with cold, flu or Covid-like symptoms — cough, sore throat, fever, runny nose, headache
- Households where one person is symptomatic and others want to check whether they are infected before going to work or school
- People preparing to visit a clinically vulnerable relative who want to confirm they are not currently infectious
- Travellers who need a single test to differentiate flu from Covid-19
Not suitable for: diagnosing infection earlier than 24–48 hours after symptom onset (viral load may be too low to detect); ruling out infection with certainty in the absence of symptoms; people who require a confirmatory PCR result for travel, work or clinical purposes.
How to use
- Wash hands and lay out all kit components on a clean, flat surface. Check the expiry date and inspect the cassette is sealed.
- Blow your nose, then unwrap the swab without touching the tip.
- Insert the swab into one nostril to a depth of about 2.5 cm and rotate against the inside of the nostril 5 times. Repeat in the other nostril using the same swab.
- Place the swab in the extraction tube, swirl, then squeeze the swab against the side as you remove it.
- Fit the dropper cap, then dispense the specified number of drops (see kit insert) onto the sample well of the cassette.
- Read the result at 15 minutes. Do not read after 20 minutes.
Frequently asked questions
How do I interpret the test result?
Two coloured lines in the SARS-CoV-2, Flu A or Flu B regions plus the control region indicates a positive result for that virus. A single line in the control region only indicates a negative result. If no control line appears, the test is invalid and should be repeated with a new kit.
What should I do if I test positive?
Stay at home, avoid contact with clinically vulnerable people, and follow current UK guidance for Covid-19 or influenza. Contact your GP or NHS 111 if symptoms are severe, if you are pregnant, or if you are in a higher-risk group. Antiviral treatments for both Covid-19 and influenza work best when started early.
Can a negative result rule out Covid-19 or flu?
No. A negative rapid antigen test reduces the likelihood of current high-viral-load infection but does not exclude it, particularly very early in symptoms. If symptoms continue or worsen, repeat the test 24–48 hours later or seek further advice.
How is this different from a PCR test?
This is a rapid antigen test designed for home use and gives a result in around 15 minutes. PCR tests are laboratory-based, take longer, and are more sensitive at very low viral loads. Antigen tests are most reliable when a person is symptomatic.
Can I use this test on a child?
Yes, the test can be used on children when administered by an adult. For young children, take care with swab depth and rotation and stop if the child becomes distressed. Refer to the manufacturer's leaflet for the minimum age stated for the specific kit.
Safety & storage
