Weight management can involve changes to eating habits, physical activity and behaviour, with medical treatment where clinically appropriate. Your health, preferences and previous experience all matter when considering a plan.
Speak with either Ways pharmacy in English or Chinese. You can ask about the service before arranging an assessment, without creating an account to call us.
Who may benefit from an assessment?
For adults aged 18 and over considering medical weight management, commonly used licensed starting criteria are:
Initial BMI of 30 or above
An adult living with obesity may be considered for an assessment of treatment options.
Initial BMI of 27 to below 30
With at least one weight-related condition, such as high blood pressure, abnormal cholesterol, sleep apnoea, prediabetes or type 2 diabetes.
BMI is weight in kilograms divided by height in metres squared. These thresholds do not confirm eligibility: the clinical assessment also considers your health history, other medicines and the criteria for the particular treatment and service.
Health risks can occur at a lower BMI in some ethnic groups, including people of Chinese and other Asian backgrounds. Discuss your individual risk with the team; a lower risk threshold does not automatically change a medicine’s licensed criteria.
Exploring treatment for the first time?
Bring your goals, recent height and weight, health conditions and a list of medicines and supplements. You do not need to select a medicine before asking about an assessment.
Already receiving treatment?
Bring your starting weight, current treatment and dose, date of your last dose, any gaps and side effects. A lower current BMI alone does not determine whether maintenance support is suitable. A change of provider or treatment needs a clinical review.
What to expect from an assessment
-
Step 1
Arrange your first discussion
Choose Holborn or Beeston and contact the team about appointments and fees. Holborn has online booking; Beeston appointments are arranged by telephone.
-
Step 2
Review your health and options
A clinical assessment considers your weight history, health conditions, medicines and previous treatment. The outcome may be a suitable treatment plan, further information or referral to another service.
-
Step 3
Agree the next steps
Before starting, discuss the full cost, instructions, who to contact and when a review is needed. Progress, side effects and any dose changes need to be reviewed during treatment.

Clear prices for both pharmacies
Holborn and Beeston use the same regular treatment prices. The detailed guide lists every dose and its charging period, so you can see how costs may change over time.
The guide states the period covered by each charge. Four weeks means 28 days, not a calendar month. Any treatment change requires clinical advice.
Before paying, confirm the total charge and whether assessment, reviews and consumables are included or charged separately. Delivery or courier charges are additional.
Read treatment information and regular pricesImportant things to discuss
Weight-management medicines are not suitable for everyone. Read the leaflet supplied with any medicine and follow your clinician’s instructions.
Pregnancy, breastfeeding and contraception
Tell the clinician if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding. Weight-loss medicines should not be used during pregnancy. The time needed off treatment before trying to conceive, and contraceptive advice, differ by medicine; the detailed guide explains these differences.
Side effects and other medicines
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and constipation can occur with some treatments. Report troublesome symptoms, especially if you cannot drink enough. Do not combine, switch or change doses of weight-loss medicines without clinical advice.
Procedures and ongoing reviews
Tell your surgical or anaesthetic team about your medicine before a procedure involving general anaesthesia or deep sedation. Discuss progress, side effects and plans to continue, maintain or stop treatment at your reviews.

Your questions, answered
Practical answers before your first appointment.
Are prices the same in London and Nottingham?
Yes. Both pharmacies use the same regular treatment prices shown in the information guide. Confirm the total charge and any separate service or delivery costs before paying.
Is an assessment or follow-up included in the price?
Ask the team to confirm the items included in your quote, including the assessment, clinical reviews and any consumables. The published treatment price should not be read as a confirmed all-inclusive service fee. Delivery or courier charges are additional.
Will treatment be suitable if I meet the BMI criteria?
BMI is one part of the assessment. Medical history, other medicines, pregnancy plans and the particular treatment and service criteria also matter. An enquiry or appointment does not guarantee that a medicine will be suitable or supplied.
Can I transfer from another provider?
Contact your chosen pharmacy with details of your previous treatment, starting weight, current dose and last dose. The clinical review will consider whether continuing or changing treatment is appropriate; do not change or restart your medicine yourself.
How much weight will I lose, and how long will I need support?
Results and treatment length vary. A plan should consider your health, eating habits, activity, response and side effects. Discuss realistic goals and the review schedule with the clinician; a specific result cannot be guaranteed.
What happens when I reach my goal or want to stop?
Arrange a review to discuss maintaining progress and whether treatment should continue, change or stop. Ongoing eating habits and activity remain relevant. The approach depends on your health and response, rather than a fixed course length for everyone.
Do I need an NHS referral or an online account just to enquire?
You can call either Ways pharmacy directly to ask about this private service without an online account or referral for the enquiry. The team will explain any records, checks or further clinical input needed before treatment can be considered.
How do I book at each pharmacy?
For Holborn, use its online booking link and select Weight management, or call 020 8106 7084. For Beeston, call 0115 925 5584 to arrange the appointment. Opening hours shown are pharmacy hours; appointment availability may differ.
