Frequently asked questions

How does Pyrocalm Control work?

Omeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor. It reduces the amount of acid your stomach makes, which relieves heartburn and acid reflux and gives the food pipe time to recover.

How long can I take Pyrocalm Control?

For over-the-counter use it is a short course of up to 14 days. If your symptoms have not settled within 14 days, or they keep coming back, see your GP for assessment.

How fast does Pyrocalm Control work?

Unlike an antacid, a PPI is not instant. Many people feel an improvement within the first few days, with the full effect usually within 2 to 3 days of taking it once daily.

When should I take it — before or after food?

Take one tablet once a day before food, swallowed whole with water. Taking it before a meal helps it work effectively.

Can I take Pyrocalm Control in pregnancy?

If you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding, speak to your pharmacist or doctor before use so they can confirm it is suitable for you.

Safety and storage

• Always read the patient information leaflet before use, as manufacturers update it regularly.
• See your GP rather than self-treating if you have alarm symptoms such as trouble swallowing, weight loss, persistent vomiting, or blood in vomit or stools.
• Tell your pharmacist about other medicines, as omeprazole can interact with some of them.
• Do not use beyond a 14-day course without medical advice.
• Store as directed on the pack, keep out of the sight and reach of children, and do not use after the expiry date.
