Frequently asked questions
Is this the same as Acnecide gel?
No. Acnecide 5% gel is a benzoyl peroxide medicine. Purifide is the brand's cosmetic skincare range; this cleanser works with 2% salicylic acid and contains no benzoyl peroxide.
How does salicylic acid help with blackheads?
Salicylic acid is an oil-soluble exfoliant that helps loosen dead skin cells and excess oil inside the pore, which helps to unclog pores and reduce blackheads with continued use.
How often should I use it?
The manufacturer's directions are twice a day on wet skin, rinsing off well. If your skin becomes dry or sensitive, use it less often.
Can I use it on my back and chest?
Yes. It is designed for blemish-prone skin on the face, chest or back.
Will it bleach towels or clothes?
No. Unlike benzoyl peroxide products, this salicylic acid cleanser is not known to bleach fabric. Rinse it off fully before drying with a towel.
Safety and storage
- For external use only. Avoid contact with the eyes; if it gets in, rinse well with water.
- Stop using if irritation, redness or peeling develops and speak to a pharmacist.
- Exfoliating acids can make skin more sensitive to the sun; use a sunscreen during the day.
- Store in a cool, dry place. Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
Always follow the instructions supplied with the product.
