Frequently asked questions
How many Covonia lozenges can I take in a day?
Adults: 6 to 10 lozenges a day, one at a time, dissolved slowly in the mouth. Children aged 12 and over take half the adult dose, 3 to 5 lozenges a day. Taking too many can numb the back of the throat and make swallowing difficult, so stay within the stated dose.
Can children use them?
Yes, from 12 years of age at half the adult dose. Do not give them to children under 12.
Are they sugar free?
Yes. The lozenges are sweetened with sorbitol, aspartame and acesulfame K instead of sugar, so they are suitable for people with diabetes. Because of the sorbitol they are not suitable for people with hereditary fructose intolerance, and the aspartame means people with phenylketonuria should take care.
Can I use them with a mouthwash or throat spray?
Avoid using other antiseptic products in the mouth or throat at the same time, as they can interfere with each other. Ask a pharmacist if you are unsure.
How long can I keep taking them?
They are for short-term relief only. If you are no better after 3 to 4 days, or your symptoms get worse, see a doctor. Using chlorhexidine lozenges for long periods can temporarily stain the teeth brown.
How should I store them?
Store below 25°C, in the original pack, and do not use after the expiry date on the carton.
