Who it is for
- Adults and children aged 10 and over with athlete's foot that is itchy, red or inflamed.
- People with sweat rash (candidal intertrigo) in skin folds where itching needs relief.
Not suitable for: Children under 10 unless a doctor advises; anyone allergic to clotrimazole, hydrocortisone or any other ingredient (including cetostearyl alcohol and benzyl alcohol); broken skin; large areas of skin; the face, eyes, mouth or genital area; acne, rosacea or perioral dermatitis; untreated bacterial or viral skin infections such as chickenpox, shingles or cold sores; use for more than 7 days. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should only use it if a doctor or midwife advises.
How to use
- Read the label and Patient Information Leaflet (PIL) before use.
- Wash and dry the affected area.
- Apply a thin, even layer to the affected skin twice a day and rub in gently.
- Wash your hands after use.
- Do not use for more than 7 days. If symptoms have not improved after 7 days, see a doctor.

How long can I use Canesten Hydrocortisone Cream?
For a maximum of 7 days. If the rash has not cleared after 7 days, stop and see a doctor.
Can I use it on my face or under a nappy?
No. Do not use it on the face, eyes, mouth or genital area, on broken skin, or under nappies, bandages or other airtight dressings.
Can children use it?
It is for adults and children aged 10 and over. For children under 10, only use it if a doctor has advised it.
Can I use it while pregnant or breastfeeding?
Only under the supervision of a doctor or midwife. Ask our pharmacist if you are unsure.
What is the difference from plain Canesten cream?
This cream adds hydrocortisone 1% to the antifungal clotrimazole to calm itching and inflammation. Plain Canesten cream contains clotrimazole only and can be used for longer.
Safety and storage
- For external use only. Do not apply to large areas of skin or under airtight dressings.
- Contains cetostearyl alcohol and benzyl alcohol, which may cause local skin reactions.
- Do not store above 25°C. Use within 6 months of opening. Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
- Read the PIL. Report suspected side effects through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme.
