Infacol is a simeticone oral suspension that relieves griping pain, infant colic and wind caused by trapped air. It helps small gas bubbles join into larger ones that your baby can bring up more easily. Suitable from birth, 85ml bottle sold by Ways Pharmacy (UK).

Who it is for

Not suitable for: Do not give Infacol if your baby may be allergic to simeticone or any of the other ingredients. Do not give it, and get advice from a doctor, if your baby is being treated for a thyroid disorder, as Infacol might reduce how much levothyroxine is absorbed. Infacol contains methyl hydroxybenzoate (E218) and propyl hydroxybenzoate (E216), which may cause allergic reactions (possibly delayed).
How to use
- Read the label and Patient Information Leaflet (PIL) before use.
- Gently shake the bottle.
- Draw up one dropper full (0.5ml) by squeezing the bulb twice, letting any excess run back into the bottle.
- Squeeze the bulb to release the Infacol onto the back of your baby's tongue, before each feed.
- If the colic still seems to be upsetting your baby after 3 or 4 days, you can double the dose to two droppers full (1ml).
- If there is still no improvement, or your baby seems to be getting worse, speak to your health visitor or doctor.

How old does my baby need to be?
Infacol can be given from birth onwards.
How quickly does it work?
Infacol has a progressive effect, so it should be given for several days. Continued use may help prevent a further build-up of wind, and you can carry on using it for several weeks.
How much should I give?
One dropper full (0.5ml) before each feed. After 3 or 4 days without improvement the dose can be doubled to two droppers full (1ml), which may be especially useful before the evening feed.
What if my baby swallows too much?
If your baby, or an adult, accidentally swallows a large quantity such as a whole bottle, it is highly unlikely to do any harm. If the person feels or looks unwell, seek medical advice.
How long does the bottle last once opened?
Once opened, use within 28 days. Do not store above 25°C.
Does it contain sugar or alcohol?
No. Infacol is free from sugar, alcohol and colourants, and is orange flavoured.
