Description

Pirinase Allergy 0.05% Nasal Spray contains the corticosteroid fluticasone propionate, used to prevent and treat allergic rhinitis including hay fever and allergy to house dust mite and animal dander. One daily dose helps with sneezing, a blocked or runny nose, itching and watery eyes. For adults and adolescents aged 12 years and over. Sold by Ways Pharmacy (UK).

Who it is for

Adults and over-12s with hay fever who want a steroid nasal spray that also helps itchy, watery eyes.
People with year-round allergic rhinitis triggered by house dust mite, animal dander or mould spores.
People who prefer a once-daily spray to antihistamine tablets, or who need something alongside them.

Not suitable for: Anyone allergic to fluticasone propionate or any of the other ingredients, and anyone taking HIV medicines such as ritonavir. Children and adolescents under 12 years must not use it. Speak to a pharmacist or doctor first if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding, if you have a nasal infection or have recently had nasal surgery or an injury to the nose, or if you take other steroid medicines.

How to use

Read the label and Patient Information Leaflet (PIL) before use. For use in the nose only.
Shake the bottle gently, then prime the pump as described in the leaflet before you use it for the first time.
Blow your nose, put the nozzle into one nostril aiming slightly outwards, and press down once while breathing in gently through the nose.
Adults and over-12s: two sprays into each nostril once a day, preferably in the morning. Once symptoms are controlled, one spray into each nostril once a day may be enough.
Do not use more than four sprays into each nostril in 24 hours. It can take several days of regular use before you feel the full benefit.
See your doctor if there is no improvement, or if you need to keep using it for more than 3 months.

Safety and storage

Do not use it with HIV medicines such as ritonavir. The combination can greatly increase the amount of steroid in the body.
Nosebleeds are very common with this spray, and dryness or irritation of the nose and throat, an unpleasant taste or smell and headache are common. Stop use and seek advice if a nosebleed persists.
Do not store above 30°C.
Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
