How it works

  1. Reserve now — choose your vaccine and pay online via the flu jab service page. We will confirm your appointment once stock arrives (cell-based from mid-October 2026, Vaxigrip from November 2026).
  2. Prefer a set time? Call 020 8106 7084 (phone line Monday to Friday, 10:00am–4:00pm) to book an appointment. Walk-ins are welcome Monday to Friday 9:00am–6:00pm once stock has arrived.
  3. At your visit, the pharmacist checks suitability and gives the injection. Protection typically builds over the 2–3 weeks after vaccination.

Frequently asked questions

When is the flu jab available?

The 2026/27 flu season runs from 1 September 2026 to 31 March 2027. At Ways Pharmacy, cell-based vaccine appointments start from mid-October 2026 and Vaxigrip appointments from November 2026, following supplier delivery dates. You can book and pay now to reserve your place.

Which flu vaccine should I choose?

If you are aged 65 or over, have an egg allergy, or want the earliest appointment, choose the cell-based vaccine (£29.99, from mid-October). If you are a healthy adult aged 18 to 64 and can wait until November, Vaxigrip (£18.99) is the lower-cost option. Both are single-dose trivalent vaccines made to the same WHO-recommended strains.

Who can have the private flu jab?

Adults aged 18 and over. The cell-based vaccine can be given to adults of any age including 65 and over; Vaxigrip is for adults aged 18 to 64 and pregnant women, and is not advised for people aged 65 and over. The pharmacist confirms suitability before vaccination.

Can I have my flu jab free on the NHS?

Yes, if you are aged 65 or over, pregnant, in a clinical risk group, a carer, or a frontline health or social care worker. Eligibility is confirmed in store — and if you have already paid privately, your payment is refunded.

I have an egg allergy — can I still have a flu jab?

Yes. The cell-based trivalent vaccine is egg-free, and egg allergy is usually not a contraindication to Vaxigrip either. Tell the pharmacist about any allergies before your jab.

Who should not have the flu jab?

Anyone who has had a severe allergic reaction to a previous flu vaccine or to any of its ingredients should not be vaccinated. If you have a fever on the day, vaccination is postponed until you are well.

How quickly does the flu jab work?

Protection typically develops over the 2–3 weeks following vaccination. A flu jab is recommended every year, as circulating strains change each season — all three strains changed for 2026/27.
