If migraine returns after initial relief, a second dose can be taken after at least 2 hours.
Do not exceed two tablets (5mg total) in 24 hours.
If the first dose is ineffective, do not repeat; use alternative painkillers instead (e.g., paracetamol, NSAIDs).
Limit use to fewer than 10 days per month to avoid medication-overuse headaches (MOH).
Zolmitriptan belongs to the triptan family of medicines, specifically formulated for the acute relief of migraine headaches. It helps to rapidly alleviate migraine symptoms, enabling you to return to daily activities sooner.
Zolmitriptan works by narrowing the blood vessels in the brain, relieving swelling and inflammation associated with migraine pain. It also blocks certain natural substances that trigger migraine symptoms.
Migraine is a neurological condition characterised by intense, throbbing headaches often accompanied by nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light and sound. It can occur with or without aura (visual disturbances or sensory changes preceding the headache).
Zolmitriptan must not be used alongside ergotamine-containing medications, MAO inhibitors, certain antidepressants, or some antibiotics and antifungals due to potential interactions. Always inform your pharmacist of all medications you are currently taking.
Zolmitriptan is not suitable if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding. Always discuss alternative treatments with your doctor or pharmacist.
Swallow one tablet whole with water at the onset of migraine symptoms.
If symptoms return after initial relief, another tablet can be taken after at least 2 hours, not exceeding two tablets in 24 hours.
Do not exceed recommended dosage.
Avoid regular use beyond 10 days per month.
