Babies under 2 with diarrhoea should be seen by a doctor promptly.
How to use
- Read the patient information leaflet on the pack before you start.
- Dissolve the contents of one sachet in 200ml of water and stir until clear; use fresh water (freshly boiled and cooled water for infants).
- Adults and the elderly: 1 to 2 sachets after each loose bowel movement. Children: 1 sachet after each loose bowel movement.
- If you feel sick, sip the drink slowly in small amounts.
- Use the solution within 1 hour, or within 24 hours if kept refrigerated. See a doctor if diarrhoea lasts more than 24–48 hours.
Frequently asked questions
How does Dioralyte work?
Dioralyte contains glucose and salts that help the body absorb water and electrolytes more efficiently, replacing what is lost during diarrhoea and vomiting and helping to prevent dehydration.
How much water do I mix with a Dioralyte sachet?
Always dissolve one sachet in exactly 200ml of water — no more, no less. Using too much or too little water can upset the salt balance and make it less effective.
Can children and babies take Dioralyte?
It can be used in children with diarrhoea. For babies under 2, only give it on a doctor's advice, as they will work out the right amount based on weight.
Can I mix Dioralyte with juice or other drinks?
No. Mix it only with water. Other drinks can change the balance of salts and make the solution less effective at treating dehydration.
When should I see a doctor?
See a doctor if diarrhoea lasts more than 24 to 48 hours, if a baby under 2 has diarrhoea, or if you cannot keep fluids down or show signs of significant dehydration.
Safety and storage
- Always read the patient information leaflet before use, as manufacturers update it regularly.
- Prepare the drink only with water and use the correct 200ml dilution.
- Discard any unused solution after 1 hour at room temperature (or 24 hours if refrigerated).
- Speak to your pharmacist before use if you have diabetes, kidney or liver problems, or are on a salt-restricted diet.
- Store below 25°C, protect from moisture, keep out of the sight and reach of children, and do not use after the expiry date.
