Benylin Mucus Cough Night is a syrup for the relief of a cough, dry or chesty, and the congestion that comes with it, to help you rest at night. For adults and children aged 12 years and over, sold by Ways Pharmacy (UK).

Who it is for
- Adults and children from 12 years whose cough and congestion disturb their sleep
- People who want an evening cough medicine that also loosens chest mucus
Not suitable for: Anyone who has reacted badly to diphenhydramine, guaifenesin, levomenthol or any of the other ingredients; anyone taking a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) antidepressant now or in the last two weeks; children under 12 years; and anyone already taking another cough and cold medicine. It must not be used to sedate a child. Speak to a doctor or pharmacist first if you have liver or kidney problems, prostate or urinary problems, narrow-angle glaucoma, asthma, emphysema or chronic bronchitis, a cough that brings up a lot of phlegm or that keeps coming back, or a cough with fever, rash or a lasting headache.
How to use
- Read the label and Patient Information Leaflet (PIL) before use.
- For oral use. Adults and children aged 12 and over: take two 5 ml spoonfuls four times a day.
- Alternatively take two 5 ml spoonfuls at bedtime, followed by two 5 ml spoonfuls every 6 hours as required.
- Do not take more than 4 doses in any 24-hour period, and do not give to children under 12 years.
- If symptoms persist, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.

Will it make me drowsy?
It may. Diphenhydramine is a sedating antihistamine. If you are affected, do not drive, cycle or operate machinery, and avoid alcoholic drinks.
Can children take it?
It is for adults and children aged 12 years and over. Do not give it to children under 12, and never use it to sedate a child.
Can I take it with another cough or cold medicine?
No. Do not take it alongside other cough and cold products, and check that other medicines do not contain an antihistamine. Ask your pharmacist if you are unsure.
I have diabetes. Does it contain sugar?
Yes. Each 5 ml contains 1 g of sucrose and 3.5 g of glucose. Take this into account if you have diabetes, and speak to your pharmacist first.
How should I store it?
Do not store above 25°C. Do not refrigerate or freeze. Keep the bottle tightly closed and use it before the expiry date on the carton.
