Medicines & Treatments is the over-the-counter range at Ways Pharmacy, a GPhC-registered pharmacy in Holborn, London. It covers remedies for coughs, colds and congestion such as Actifed tablets and dry cough syrup, headache relief like the 4head levomenthol stick, herbal support including A.Vogel Echinaforce, skin cooling gels such as Acriflex, dry eye care with Lacrilube ointment, wound care from 3M Steri-Strips and alcohol swabs, and Activa compression hosiery.

When choosing, start from your main symptom and check the label for age limits and ingredients — especially if you already take other medicines. General sale items are self-selection; pharmacy (P) medicines are supplied after a pharmacist consultation to check they are right for you. If symptoms persist or worsen, speak to our pharmacists on 020 8106 7084 or see your GP.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between general sale and pharmacy medicines?

General sale (GSL) medicines, such as small packs of common remedies, can be picked directly from the shelf. Pharmacy (P) medicines are only supplied after a consultation with the pharmacist, who checks the product is suitable and safe for you. Neither needs a prescription — prescription-only medicines are a separate category and always require one.

Can I ask a pharmacist which treatment to choose?

Yes. Our GPhC-registered pharmacists are available at 77 Southampton Row, Holborn, Monday to Friday 9am–6pm, or on 020 8106 7084, and can help you match a treatment to your symptoms and any medicines you already take.

What should I do if an over-the-counter treatment does not help?

If your symptoms persist, worsen or keep returning, stop relying on self-care and speak to a pharmacist or your GP — some symptoms need assessment rather than another over-the-counter product.
