The Menopause Hormones Profile is a 4-marker blood test measuring FSH, LH and oestradiol, plus TSH to check for thyroid problems that mimic menopause, processed by London Medical Laboratory (LML), a UKAS-accredited ISO 15189 laboratory, and sold by Ways Pharmacy (UK).
Key facts

Who it is for
- Women in their 40s and 50s with symptoms such as hot flushes, mood changes, brain fog, sleep problems or irregular periods
- Women who want hormonal confirmation alongside their symptoms before discussing HRT with a doctor
- Women whose symptoms could be thyroid-related as well as hormonal — TSH is included to help distinguish
- Women tracking reproductive-stage change who want an objective hormone reading
Not suitable for: use as a sole diagnosis of menopause (menopause is primarily a clinical diagnosis based on age and symptoms); acutely unwell people who need urgent assessment; replacement for assessment by a doctor.
What is measured
- Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) — rises as ovarian function declines; a key marker of reproductive-stage change
- Luteinising Hormone (LH) — pituitary hormone interpreted alongside FSH
- Oestradiol (E2) — the main oestrogen; the fall in oestradiol drives most menopause symptoms
- Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) — included because thyroid problems can cause symptoms similar to menopause
How it works
- Complete payment online and choose your option: an appointment at Holborn London, or an at-home self-collection kit posted to you.
- If you are still having periods, the hormone markers are cycle-dependent — mention this when booking so the pharmacist can advise on timing. If your periods have stopped, timing is less critical.
- For in-store, attend Ways Pharmacy, 77 Southampton Row, London WC1B 4ET, where a trained operator takes a blood sample. For at-home, follow the kit instructions to collect a finger-prick sample and return it in the prepaid packaging.
- Your sample is sent to London Medical Laboratory for analysis.
- You receive a written report with each marker against its reference range, typically within 3–5 working days. A pharmacist can talk you through it and recommend GP follow-up where appropriate.
Frequently asked questions
Will this test confirm I am in menopause?
FSH, LH and oestradiol are useful indicators of reproductive-stage change, but menopause is primarily a clinical diagnosis based on age and symptoms. Hormone levels fluctuate during perimenopause, so a single set of results is interpreted alongside your symptoms and cycle pattern rather than used alone.
When in my cycle should I take the test?
If you are still menstruating, FSH, LH and oestradiol vary across the cycle, so mention this when booking and the pharmacist will advise on timing. If your periods have already stopped, the timing is less important.
Why is TSH included?
Thyroid problems can cause symptoms that overlap with menopause, such as fatigue, mood changes and weight change. Including TSH helps distinguish a thyroid cause from a hormonal one when your results are interpreted.
How long do results take?
Results are typically returned 3 to 5 working days after London Medical Laboratory receives your sample. You will receive a written report showing each marker against its reference range.
Is the laboratory accredited?
Yes. Samples are processed by London Medical Laboratory (LML), a UKAS-accredited laboratory operating to ISO 15189, the international standard for medical testing laboratories.
When to seek further advice
This profile does not diagnose menopause on its own. Reference ranges are provided with your report; discuss your results with a clinician, and if you want treatment such as HRT or a result is abnormal, follow up with your GP.
This is a private health screening service. Results are interpretive and do not replace clinical diagnosis by a GP or specialist. Abnormal results should be followed up with your GP.
