Epsom salt is made up of magnesium and sulphate. When placed in water these two molecules separate and are absorbed trans dermally (through the skin), making them accessible to the cells in the body. This helps the body recover from exercise in two ways:
By replacing the magnesium that has been used up during exercise as energy production and lost in sweat. Magnesium relaxes muscles, assisting in muscle recovery and preventing cramping and injury, which is especially important to athletes.
When we exercise, we see a build-up of toxins due to the number of metabolic processes that are activated within the body. To remove the toxins one of the detoxification pathways the body uses requires usable sulphate ions. If the body does not have sufficient sulphate present for the pathway to be enabled, then the detoxification will not be able to happen.
It is this unique combination of both body cleansing and muscle relaxation that makes Epsom Salt so effective after exercise.
HOW TO USE
Add 1-4 cups of salts to a warm bath Relax and soak for at least 20 minutes.
For MSK discomfort or after an intense exercise session we recommend using 2-4 cups in your bath (500g-1Kg) up to 3 times a week.
If you have very dry or sensitive skin then you may prefer to use Magnesium Flakes instead of Epsom Salts.
For maintenance of muscle relaxation and health, you can boost any bath with 1-2 cups (250-500g) either alone or alongside your other favourite bathing products.
Try using alongside our SLS/SLES-free Dead Sea Bath & Shower Gel for a more luxurious and skin hydrating fragrant soak.
